From Cells to Success: Project Umeed 2.0’s Empowerment Expedition

Project Umeed 2.0, an ambitious initiative set to redefine the prison reform landscape by 2025-26. Our mission is not just to reform, but to empower. Through a carefully crafted approach, we aim to expand our reach and achieve self-reliance by harnessing the potential of prison inmates as peer leaders. At the heart of Project Umeed 2.0 lie four key pillars: Education, Skill Development, Mental Well-being, and Hygiene Access. We envision a structured reformation program that revolves around imparting vocational training and fostering mental wellness while ensuring access to hygiene kits, particularly for the underprivileged and undertrials.

MODE OF OPERATIONS:

ACCESS: To provide access to Adult education, e-Library & skill development avenues and basic Hygiene Kit.
Activities: STITCHING & TAILORING, HAIR CUTTING, LIBRARY, ADULT LITERACY, ART THERAPY, GREEN THERAPY, HYGIENE KIT
AWARE: To aid mental well-being through therapeutic interventions
Activities: PRISON RADIO and WORKSHOP
ENABLE: To reach out through engagement and reformation activities – art
Activities: ART & CRAFT/PAINTING and DANCE
INFLUENCE: To mentor peer leaders to develop sustainable influencers and change-makers inside Prison
Activities: PEER LEADER, SPORTS EVENT, RJ TRAINING and CELEBRATIONS

ACHIEVED MILESTONES (MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS):

Health & Hygiene: Distributed Hundreds of Health & Hygiene Kits, promoting health in both Gurugram and Faridabad Prisons.

Covid Relief Efforts: Inmates produced 20,000 masks in sewing classes, contributing to pandemic relief efforts.

Radio Parvaaz Launch: Introduced Radio Parvaaz to provide tailored mental well-being content for thousands of inmates.

Inmate Empowerment: Four inmates secured employment with India Vision Foundation, while 50 others successfully reintegrated into society, showcasing the effectiveness of rehabilitation efforts.
